Music is the answer
Music played big part in my life and still does, like most folk I guess. There was always music on in our house growing up, from me Mam listening to Motown or Soul and me Dad playing stuff like the Beatles, Elton John and Billy Joel. A proper eclectic mix of music, the list goes on and on. I have great memories of me Mam singing along to Motown, cooking Sunday lunch. Me Dad maybe out washing the car or cutting the grass listening to the likes of the Eagles or Queen from the car. Most likely making the words up as he goes long (he still does this) Not going to lie, I may have also inherited that trait (But don’t tell anyone) .
Music is powerful, you can hear a certain track and it can take you right back to a moment in time or remind you of a certain someone. It can make you feel good or bad happy or sad, it can make you want to dance, it let’s you forget about life for while even. Yeah, for me music can do all that and then some.
My music taste is all over the shop but I’ve a pretty good taste in music ( if I do say so myself) I think it’s pretty eclectic, I’m no muszo and I’m definitely not a DJ (I can’t mix a drink)
As I said i grew up listing to Motown and all things sixties . I’m an 80’s Child from Manchester so that’s when I really got into music. In the late eighties, early nineties the whole Madchester thing was a proper movement of music for the north west of England. Bands like the Happy Monday’s, Stone roses, New order, Smiths, James, Northside and then much later on Oasis but without the likes of the Stone Roses and the Happy Monday’s you wouldn’t even have had Oasis to be fair.
Then at the same time as Madchester, well even before that to be fair, came the hacienda and dance music.
I unfortunately wasn’t old enough to experience the hac (absolutely gutted about that still).
But don’t worry I made up for that in later years. In the late 90’s early 2000’s I lived in Ibiza and danced for days, weeks, years... what a time that was to be alive 98-2000 Ibiza, music really did bring people together from all walks of life and countries. It didn’t matter where you were from or where you were going, we were all there for the music. I made friends for life all because of the music.
Growing up in north Manchester In the 90’s was amazing. Music and football meant everything, my mates were also older than me so i guess I was listening to stuff a little before my time. The first single I ever bought was Waterfall by the Stone roses in HMV on Market St. in Manchester. The first ever gig was James at the G-mex the year I left school and I went to see Oasis at Main Rd, Manchester City’s old football ground. 16 of us went that day, all the lads from school and what a day out that was. I remember it like it was yesterday. Definitely Maybe had just come out and that was followed by Whats The Story Morning Glory which has just celebrated its 25th anniversary (God I’m getting old)
Liam Gallagher, the best front man of our generation and Noel possibly the best song writer, ok so I’m a little biased but it makes for a great conversation.
I’m currently buying lots of vinyl, definitely stepping up my game and adding to my collection as our kid bought me a nice turntable for my 40th Bday. The last 3 vinyl I’ve bought were
Oasis - What’s the story morning glory (Anniversary addition)
Fleetwood Mac - Rumours
Noel Gallagher’s - High flying birds - This is the place.
All of theses have a coloured Vinyl which I love
Go hit the my playlists tab and check out vol 1-5 - something for everyone
Music most definitely is the answer.
