Homeschooling
Who would of thought it, Fletch, homeschooling. I know I wouldn’t have and if the Mrs is being honest neither would she.
I don’t normally get involved with all the homeschooling and I don’t have the patience for it. To be fair I’m not academic and I would say I’m pretty dyslexic(never confirmed) but if anyone who knows me or you’ve received a text or email from me then you will get what I’m talking about! Over the years I have definitely shied away or tried my best not to put myself in a situation where I need to write in front of people, however fortunately it has never stopped me or held me back in anyway!
So with me currently not working due to lockdown restrictions and my wife working full time, I have stepped up to the plate and faced homeschooling head on. The last thing I want is for my girls to feel the way I have done most of my life and feeling embarrassed when it comes reading and writing.
(mainly writing for me)
So, I have 100% embraced homeschooling, I’m not one for doing anything half hearted, I’m an all or nothing type of guy. Over the last 4 weeks I have been covering the basics of :
Reading, spelling, writing, maths and I have even touched on a little French. We’ve also been doing Arts and crafts, PE, yoga, rainbow breathing and loads and loads of baking. But to keep them entertained and engaged I’ve tried to have a little fun along the way and Improvised on what the school have set with daily tasks and work sheets using dancing, photography, live history lessons with John for Manchester taxi tours and I’ve really encourage them to get outside and get involved with Daddy on my daily / weekly mooch. The Girls did great last week and walked almost 7k (Iris 9/Mila 6) round the lower ground of the Pentlands which was impressive.
But it’s not all fun and games and silly videos on social media, it’s been tough at times and we have had a few bumps along the way. And I’ll not lie, the wind was knocked out of our sails earlier in the week when we were told they we’ll be homeschooling for at least another six weeks. I’m hoping my reaction was the same as everyone else’s pass me the wine!
Keep on keeping on
You got this !!
Fletch
